Strava removes opt-out option for Athlete Intelligence AI feature
Strava has updated its policy regarding its generative AI feature, Athlete Intelligence, removing the option for premium subscribers to opt out. While the feature was available as a beta with a “Leave the beta” option in 2024, it has now become a mandatory component of the premium subscription service.
Athlete Intelligence analyzes user activity data—including location, heart rate, pace, and power—to generate text-based summaries and performance insights for activities such as running, cycling, and hiking.
Critics and users have noted issues with the accuracy of these summaries. Some reports indicate the AI provides generic advice or produces contradictory statements, such as labeling a run as both a “recovery run” and a session with the “fastest pace in two weeks.” The feature remains exclusive to premium subscribers and those on free trials, while free account users do not see the summaries.
