Strawberries, grapes and apples contain the highest pesticide residues

A report by the US Environmental Working Group, using testing data from the USDA's Pesticide Data Program, found that strawberries, grapes and apples consistently rank among fruits with the highest pesticide residue levels. The agency notes that most samples remain within legally permitted safety limits, but experts stress the importance of washing produce, especially since strawberries are eaten whole and grapes have thin skins. Apples often receive a food‑grade wax coating after harvest, which is not a harmful chemical but contributes to measured residues.

Despite the residues, authorities advise consumers not to avoid these fruits, emphasizing that their nutritional benefits outweigh the risk from pesticide levels that stay within regulatory thresholds.
