Stray dog attacks beachgoers on Evia, injuring several and hospitalizing two elderly

On the morning of Sunday 2 August 2026, a stray dog attacked people swimming at Lefkandi beach on the island of Evia, Greece. The animal lunged at bathers, causing injuries to both men and women.

One woman suffered serious wounds to her left hand and right foot, and two elderly vacationers were taken to the Hospital of Chalkida for treatment. The dog continued to move around the beach, prompting panic among swimmers. George Tsalla, president of the community of Vasiliko, immediately contacted municipal authorities to have the dog removed and to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
