Stray dogs prevent sexual assault attempt in Coimbatore, India

A pack of stray dogs intervened to prevent a sexual assault on a woman in the Coimbatore region of India. The incident occurred in the early hours of a Thursday near the NGGO Colony area in Thudiyalur.

According to CCTV footage, a 17-year-old male, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, approached the woman, who was sitting near a railway bridge. As the suspect attempted to attack her, the dogs reacted. One dog specifically bit the assailant on the legs, causing him to flee the scene. The rest of the pack joined in, with one dog chasing the suspect for several meters.

Police discovered the attempted assault while reviewing security footage for an unrelated arson investigation. Using the video evidence, authorities identified and arrested the teenager on Friday. The suspect has been referred to the Juvenile Justice Board and moved to a specialized observation center.
