Streaming and television platforms expand miniseries offerings
Streaming and traditional television services are increasingly prioritizing miniseries to cater to audiences seeking shorter, high-impact content.
In Brazil, Bandplay, a platform owned by Grupo Bandeirantes, has expanded its catalog with five new international minidramas through a partnership with DramaShorts. These productions, including “A Armadilha do CEO” and “Alfa Rick,” are designed for vertical viewing on mobile devices, featuring fast-paced narratives and frequent plot twists. This format follows trends seen in markets like China and the United States.
In Portugal, AMC is introducing the Australian miniseries “Um Pequeno Acidente” (Reckless). The series follows two rival siblings attempting to escape the consequences of an accidental hit-and-run in Fremantle. The release follows a broader trend in the Portuguese market, where both streaming services and traditional channels like RTP 2 are utilizing short-form series to drive viewership.
