Streaming data shows theatrical hits driving summer viewership

Data from Nielsen streaming charts for the period of June through mid-July indicates that theatrical releases are performing strongly on streaming platforms following extended theatrical windows.

Disney/Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’ led the summer streaming rankings with 2.66 billion cumulative viewing minutes on Disney+. Other top performers included Amazon MGM’s ‘Project Hail Mary’ and ‘The Sheep Detectives’, as well as Disney/20th Century Studios’ ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, which recorded 1.7 billion minutes viewed within three weeks of its Disney+ debut.

The success of these titles suggests that longer theatrical windows do not negatively impact a film’s subsequent performance on streaming services.
