Streaming platforms see rise in popular miniseries
Streaming platforms are experiencing a surge in popularity for miniseries, with short-form narratives between three and ten episodes becoming major audience phenomena. Recent successful titles include ‘11-S: United by Tragedy’, ‘The Gastronomic Club’, and ‘Mousetrap: Limited Series’ on Disney+ and Netflix.
National Geographic’s three-episode docuseries, ‘11-S: United by Tragedy’, produced in collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, has reached number one in 31 countries. The series follows survivors of the September 11 attacks as they seek to reconnect.
On Netflix, the black-and-white adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s work, ‘Ripley’, has emerged as a significant critical and commercial success. Directed by Steve Zaillian and set in 1960s New York and Italy, the eight-episode series follows a con artist navigating a web of fraud and crime. The project was originally developed for another network before being acquired by Netflix.
