Street art project transforms ventilation towers in Vienna
Four ventilation towers near the Westbahnhof in Vienna's Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district have been transformed from gray concrete into colorful street art. The project, titled ‘Bunte Türme für die Nachbarschaft’ (Colorful Towers for the Neighborhood), covers approximately 100 square meters across Europaplatz and Helga-Pollak-Kinsky-Park.
Initiated by the inclusion agency VOI fesch and implemented with Gebietsbetreuung Stadterneuerung, the project focused on social inclusion by bringing together artists with and without disabilities. Participants worked through workshops to develop designs based on the themes of ‘Being on the Way’, ‘Arriving’, ‘For Each Other’, and ‘Togetherness’.
The artistic team included Bettina Onderka, Suzana Jalloul, Michi Ertl, and Simon Werl, collaborating with street artists Jeremias Altmann (El Jerrino), Axel Schindler, and Käthe Löffelmann. The initiative was funded through tower sponsorships and district cultural funding from Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus.
