Street Fighter 2026 film features animated segments and franchise Easter eggs

The 2026 live-action Street Fighter movie, based on the Capcom video game franchise, incorporates both live-action and animated elements. The film opens with a lengthy animated segment detailing the backstories of Ryu (Andrew Koji), Ken (Noah Centineo), Gouken (Don Lee), and Akuma (Joe Roman Anoa’i). This animation style appears to pay tribute to the 1994 film Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

Set in 1993, the plot follows adopted brothers Ryu and Ken, who become enemies after the death of their master. They eventually reunite in the city of Metrolao, which is ruled by the dictator M. Bison (David Dastmalchian). The story revolves around a tournament organized by Bison, featuring various characters including Chun-Li (Callina Liang) and Guile (Cody Rhodes).

While the film includes many Easter eggs and recreations of iconic moments from the games, such as the Street Fighter II intro and character theme music, critics have noted an aggressively silly tone and a heavy reliance on fan service.
