Street Fighter film adaptation premieres in theaters
The film adaptation of Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise, directed by Kitao Sakurai and produced by Paramount Pictures and Legendary, has premiered in theaters. Set in the early 1990s, the story follows martial artists Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) as they are recruited by Chun-Li (Callina Liang) to participate in the second World Warrior Tournament.
Critical reception is mixed. Some reviewers praise the film’s high-energy soundtrack and the emotional dynamic between the two protagonists, noting that the characters' differing approaches to the Ansatsuken martial art provide a cohesive bond. However, other critics have described the live-action experience as middling, citing unremarkable performances and a lack of the culturally diverse settings found in the original video games.
Despite varying opinions on its execution, the film has seen significant commercial interest, appearing as one of the most-watched films in Portuguese cinemas since its release. The cast includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, and 50 Cent as Balrog.
