Street Fighter film explores sequel potential and cast diversity
The latest Street Fighter cinematic adaptation has seen a divide between critical and audience reception. While critics gave the film a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences provided a 79% score, and the film led the global box office in its opening weekend with $51.1 million.
Director Kitao Sakurai expressed interest in a sequel, noting that while the team would love to continue the story of the 40-year-old franchise, a green light depends on fan support and commercial performance.
Actress and martial arts champion Rayna Vallandingham, who portrays Juli, discussed her role in the film. Vallandingham, a 13-time taekwondo world champion, stated her goal was to break stereotypes regarding how Indian women are portrayed in Hollywood, moving away from traditional tropes to play a strong, lethal character.
