Street Fighter film reboot features 16 iconic characters

The upcoming Street Fighter film, directed by Kitao Sakurai, is a reboot based on Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter II: The World Warrior’ video game. The production incorporates 16 of the franchise’s main characters and features a soundtrack of alternative rock and hip hop.

The narrative begins with a 1987 flashback illustrated in 2D hand-drawn animation, depicting the relationship between Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Ryu (Andrew Koji) under the training of Gouken (Don Lee). The story transitions to 1993, where the dictator M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) organizes a second World Warrior tournament in Metrolao City to harvest fighters' energy to fuel his Psycho Power.

Cast members, including Callina Liang as Chun-Li, have emphasized the importance of staying true to the spirit of the original game. Liang noted that character development involves exploring personal details, such as Chun-Li’s preference for sweet treats and desserts.
