Italy street food sector sees 88.7% growth in ten years

The street food sector in Italy has undergone a significant structural transformation over the last decade, evolving from a niche urban phenomenon into a stable component of the national economic fabric. According to data from the Business Register, processed by Unioncamere and InfoCamere, the number of street food businesses in Italy has grown by 88.7%, rising from 2,271 to 4,286 units.

This expansion is not limited to major cities or tourist hubs; it has spread to small towns, coastal areas, and inland villages. The number of Italian municipalities hosting at least one registered street food business has increased by 57%, growing from 1,258 in 2016 to 1,975. Currently, more than one in four Italian municipalities hosts such an activity.

In specific regions like Rimini, the growth has been even more pronounced, with registered businesses increasing from 3 in 2016 to 14 today. Experts suggest the sector has successfully adapted to changing consumer habits, catering to demand for flexible, informal, and experiential dining.
