Strength training and creatine show metabolic benefits in new studies

Recent scientific studies have highlighted the metabolic and physical benefits of strength training and creatine supplementation.

A study conducted at Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and published in the journal Life Sciences found that resistance training can increase visceral fat burning in obese subjects within just seven days, even before significant weight loss is observed on the scale. The research used mice to simulate intense muscle contractions to observe how adipose tissue reacts to the onset of strength training.

Separately, researchers at Texas A&M University published findings in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition regarding the effects of creatine. The study, involving sedentary adults aged 45 to 65, suggested that daily creatine consumption can help increase lean muscle mass and strength, even in individuals who do not engage in regular exercise. Additionally, those who combined creatine with diet and exercise saw greater reductions in body fat percentage. The study also noted exploratory evidence of improved cognitive function and memory in participants taking the supplement.
