Strength training benefits outweigh injury risks in Austria

Data from the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit (KFV) indicates that approximately 3,300 people in Austria required hospital treatment following strength training accidents in 2025. While the absolute number of injuries has risen, experts suggest this trend is linked to the increasing popularity of strength training among the population.

From a sports medicine perspective, the health benefits of regular, correctly performed strength training significantly outweigh the associated risks. Scientific evidence supports that strength training strengthens muscles and bones, improves physical performance, supports metabolism, and combats age-related muscle loss. Furthermore, targeted training serves as a preventative measure by improving the stability of the musculoskeletal system, which can reduce injury risks in daily life and other sports.
