Stress hormones and their impact on hair growth

Prolonged stress can disrupt the natural hair growth cycle, potentially leading to increased hair shedding. While short-term stress is a normal bodily response, continuous pressure from work, family responsibilities, poor sleep, or financial worries can cause the body to release elevated levels of cortisol.

This hormonal response may cause more hairs to enter the resting phase simultaneously, resulting in noticeable shedding across the scalp. This hair loss often appears some time after the stressful period rather than immediately.

While stress is a significant factor, other elements such as genetics, age, nutrition, and underlying health conditions also influence hair health. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D, and biotin, alongside adequate sleep and stress management, can support overall hair wellness. Experts recommend consulting a dermatologist for persistent or heavy hair loss.
