Strictly 2026 viewers criticize Icons Week and judge scoring

Viewers of Strictly 2026 expressed dissatisfaction following the Icons Week episode aired on Saturday, October 17. Fans utilized social media to criticize the theme, with some labeling the celebrity and judge costumes as “cringe” and “kitschy,” leading to calls for the themed week to be abolished.

Controversy also arose regarding the scoring of Shaun Wright-Phillips. After performing a Couple’s Choice routine inspired by James Brown, the former footballer received unanimous praise from judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke. Despite receiving a score of 28, some viewers accused the panel of “overmarking” his performance, particularly when comparing his marks to those given to other contestants.
