PayPal posts Q2 earnings beat, rejects $53 bn Stripe‑Advent takeover offer

PayPal reported second‑quarter 2026 results that topped expectations, with revenue of $8.68 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $1.38, beating the $1.28 consensus. Operating cash flow rose to nearly $2 billion and free cash flow to $1.8 billion. The company said active accounts held steady at 439 million and noted a 10 % increase in total payment volume to $486.4 billion. Management lifted its full‑year 2026 EPS forecast to about $5.38 per share and outlined a $400 million cost‑saving plan through 2027, emphasizing AI, a re‑organised structure and the expansion of its PYUSD stablecoin to 70 markets.

Separately, PayPal’s board rejected a confidential takeover proposal from Stripe and Advent International valued at roughly $53 billion – $60.50 per share, a 28 % premium to the prior close. The board deemed the offer inadequate and signalled confidence that the company can generate greater value under its current turnaround strategy.
