Strömsund Bridge closed after heavy transport causes structural shift
The Strömsund Bridge on the E45 highway in Sweden has sustained significant structural damage following a heavy transport incident. A special transport weighing approximately 100 tons was crossing the bridge when the structure reportedly shifted laterally and vertically by as much as 50 centimeters.
Although the bridge has a load capacity of 74 tons, the vehicle had reportedly received a dispensation from Trafikverket to cross. No injuries were reported, and the driver evacuated the vehicle before raising the alarm. Emergency services, including the police and rescue teams, secured the site to prevent unauthorized access and to manage traffic diversions.
Trafikverket has closed the bridge to all traffic. Preliminary estimates suggest the closure could last for a month, though some reports indicate potential long-term impacts. Police are investigating the incident to determine if any criminal offenses occurred, while Trafikverket will conduct a full investigation into the structural damage once the heavy vehicle has been removed.
