Stroessner’s Hunt video game explores Paraguayan dictatorship history

A new mobile video game titled ‘Stroessner’s Hunt’ has been released in Paraguay, using interactive entertainment to address the historical memory of the country’s dictatorship under Alfredo Stroessner (1954–1989).

The game focuses on the ‘Pascua Dolorosa’ of 1976, a period of intense repression against the Christian Agrarian Leagues, a peasant movement supported by the Catholic Church. Historical records and the Truth and Justice Commission document that this specific operation resulted in approximately 400 detentions, over 200 cases of torture, and several disappearances.

By utilizing mobile technology, the project aims to engage younger generations with the realities of political persecution, censorship, and arbitrary detentions that characterized the stronismo regime. The game serves as a digital tool to discuss the limits of representing political violence and the role of technology in preserving collective memory.
