Stroke awareness in Poland: symptoms and medical urgency
Medical specialists in Poland are highlighting the critical importance of rapid recognition of stroke symptoms to prevent permanent brain damage and disability. Approximately 90,000 strokes occur annually in Poland, with nearly one-third of hospitalized patients being under the age of 65.
Symptoms can include sudden drooping of the corner of the mouth, limb weakness, slurred speech, or loss of vision. Experts warn that even if symptoms subside after a few minutes, immediate medical attention via emergency services is required, as these may indicate a transient ischemic attack.
There are two primary types of stroke: ischemic, which occurs when a blood vessel supplying the brain is blocked, and hemorrhagic, which occurs when a vessel ruptures. Because symptoms alone cannot distinguish between the two, diagnostic imaging is essential to determine the appropriate treatment.
