Stroke risks extend to younger populations, specialists warn

Medical specialists are warning that strokes are not exclusive to older adults. While age is a significant risk factor, neurological emergencies can affect younger individuals due to conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and sedentary lifestyles.

According to the World Stroke Organization, more than 12% of ischemic strokes occur in people between the ages of 15 and 49. The World Health Organization identifies strokes as the second leading cause of death and the primary cause of disability globally.

Medical experts emphasize that rapid diagnosis and treatment are critical, as every minute impacts the amount of brain tissue affected. Key warning signs include sudden weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding, sudden vision changes, loss of balance, and intense, sudden headaches.
