Stromboli: School reopens in Ginostra for a single student

A school has reopened in Ginostra, a remote hamlet on the Italian volcanic island of Stromboli, for the first time in over 20 years. The facility currently serves a single student, a six-year-old girl named Aysha.

Due to the small population of Ginostra, which has approximately 40 residents outside of the tourist season and is accessible only by sea, the school's reopening was made possible through the advocacy of Aysha's parents. The goal of their efforts was to ensure their daughter could receive an education without having to leave her home community.

The classroom is located in a renovated room within the local rectory. Aysha is taught by teacher Laura Mongi, with support from the administration of the Lipari municipality and the Aeolian Islands school authorities.
