Stromnetz Berlin installs 100,000 smart meters

Stromnetz Berlin has reached a significant milestone in the digitalization of the capital's power supply with the installation of its 100,000th intelligent smart meter. The milestone was marked at the Bülowbogen commercial courtyard in Berlin-Schöneberg.

Since beginning the rollout in August 2020, the company has been modernizing the grid to support the energy transition. These devices record electricity consumption every 15 minutes and transmit data daily via encrypted mobile connections through a smart meter gateway. This technology is intended to increase transparency for consumers and provide the technical foundation for dynamic electricity tariffs.

Stromnetz Berlin is responsible for approximately 2.4 million meters and has completed about half of the legally mandated installations. Additionally, around 5,000 state-owned properties in Berlin have been equipped with these devices in recent months.
