Strong Armenia faction faces internal tension after parliamentary incident
Tensions have escalated within the ‘Strong Armenia’ faction of the National Assembly following an incident involving MP Edgar Ghazaryan. During a parliamentary session, Ghazaryan reportedly used offensive language before leaving the hall, which led to a confrontation involving other MPs, including Vahe Ghalumyan.
Following the incident, faction leader Narek Karapetyan held discussions with members to urge adherence to parliamentary rules. While some members have called for Ghazaryan to resign his mandate due to recurring disagreements, the faction has decided against a formal apology, as Ghazaryan refuses to apologize while government representatives continue to use harsh language toward him. As a temporary measure, it has been agreed that Ghazaryan will refrain from making speeches or asking questions in the National Assembly for several days to allow tensions to subside.
Separately, the ‘Strong Armenia’ faction has nominated David Ghazinyan for the position of chair of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration and Environmental Protection. During parliamentary debates, Ghazinyan addressed energy security, stating that Armenia is self-sufficient in energy even if the nuclear power plant were to stop, and emphasized the need for accumulation systems for solar energy.
