Strong Group Athletics begins William Jones Cup title bid

Strong Group Athletics (SGA) has launched its bid for a third consecutive William Jones Cup championship in Taipei. The reinforced Philippine squad features veteran guard Matthew Wright and 7-foot-5 Serbian center and NBA veteran Boban Marjanovic. Wright expressed pride in representing the Philippines again, noting that while the team has had limited practice time, the talent level is high.

This year’s tournament utilizes a new format where the eight-team field is divided into two groups. SGA is placed in Group A, which includes the national teams of Japan and Chinese Taipei. The team’s opening match is against the South Korean club Wonju DB Promy. SGA head coach Charles Tiu noted the difficulty of the group, stating the team must remain alert due to the high level of competition.
