Strong winds cause structural damage in Ecuador and Peru

Severe wind gusts have caused significant damage across parts of Ecuador and Peru. In the Santa Elena province of Ecuador, strong winds on Wednesday, October 21, damaged several restaurants in San Pablo by lifting zinc roofs. In the Pechiche community, located in the Chanduy parish, the gusts caused several electricity poles to collapse, raising concerns among residents regarding power stability.

In Peru, heavy winds on Tuesday afternoon caused the roof of the Chingora health post to detach in the San Miguel district of the San Román province. Local residents reported that the 36-year-old facility had previously been flagged for urgent maintenance, but requests to the San Miguel District Municipality and the San Román Health Network were reportedly ignored. Community members have expressed frustration over the lack of immediate response from civil defense authorities following the incident.
