Struga Municipality faces 5 million euro debt

The Municipality of Struga is facing a debt of 5 million euros that is currently subject to enforcement proceedings. Mayor Mendi Qyra stated that while this 5 million euro figure is the primary focus for resolution, there are additional undocumented debts currently in legal procedures involving interest and other expenses.

Qyra attributed the financial crisis to previous municipal leadership, describing the debt as an accumulation from years of prior administration. He noted that a recent payment of 1.4 million denars has been made, leaving approximately 55,000 to 60,000 euros still owed to student transporters.

In response to the unpaid arrears, student transporters from several villages in the Struga region have threatened to boycott student transportation services. Local officials and transporters have held discussions to seek a concrete solution to the situation.
