Stryker and MMI announce major investments in surgical robotics
Stryker has agreed to invest approximately $400 million in Cambridge-based CMR Surgical. Under the agreement, Stryker will secure exclusive U.S. sales rights for the Versius surgical robotics portfolio and holds an option to purchase the company’s remaining equity. While Stryker manages U.S. commercialization, CMR Surgical will continue to lead international commercialization and maintain research and development operations in Cambridge, England.
In a separate development in the surgical robotics sector, MMI has raised $125 million in Series D financing to accelerate the growth of its Symani Surgical System. Led by BioStar Capital, the funding round aims to expand the availability of robotic microsurgery in the U.S. and global markets. MMI intends to use the capital for commercial expansion, clinical trials, and research, including the REMIND study which explores applications related to Alzheimer’s disease.
