STTK celebrates 80 years of influence in Finland

The Central Organisation of Finnish Technical Employees (STTK) marks its 80th anniversary, having been founded on October 29, 1946. Originally established by four unions, the organization has played a significant role in Finnish society through involvement in income policy agreements and pension reforms.

STTK represents 400,000 members across 12 member unions, covering both public and private sectors. The organization has evolved from a male-dominated industrial union into a balanced body where 77 percent of members are women.

Under the leadership of Chair Else-Mai Kirvesniemi, STTK’s future strategy focuses on promoting equality, diversity, and improving the position of young people in the workforce. The organization continues to influence legislation, social policy, education, and the economy through international cooperation and domestic advocacy.
