Stuart Broad criticizes Lancashire over James Anderson contract decision

Stuart Broad has criticized Lancashire County Cricket Club, describing their decision not to renew James Anderson’s contract as “disrespectful.” Despite the 44-year-old seamer taking 50 wickets at an average of 17 and earning Lancashire’s player of the year award, the club confirmed it would not offer him a deal for the 2027 season.

Anderson, who has served the county since 2000, expressed disappointment regarding the exit, stating, “If it was up to me, it wouldn’t have ended like this,” and indicated he may look for a new club. Broad suggested that the club’s leadership failed to provide a proper send-off for a player of Anderson’s stature, noting that “you give your icons or greats of the game a better sign-off.”

Lancashire’s new management, including CEO Richard Kenyon and director of cricket Paul Farbrace, indicated the decision is part of a broader strategy to rebuild the squad for future promotion. Farbrace thanked Anderson for his contributions to the club but confirmed the decision was based on the team's long-term restructuring goals.
