Stuart James Scharnick arrested for allegedly intimidating journalist

Stuart James Scharnick has been arrested by the South African Police Service following allegations of intimidating Sowetan journalist Herman Moloi. The incident occurred at the Bridget Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria during a session of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

According to reports, the confrontation began during a tea break after Moloi recorded Scharnick interacting with suspended National Coloured Congress Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams. Moloi alleged that Scharnick used a threatening tone and pointed fingers at him, suggesting a confrontation outside the venue.

Scharnick, described as a businessman and associate of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, was arrested after Moloi filed a criminal case. The Sowetan has condemned the incident, stating that threats against journalists constitute a threat to democracy and the public’s right to information.
