Stuart Skinner eyes starting role with Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Stuart Skinner is positioning himself for a starting role following the absence of franchise leader Connor Hellebuyck. Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, reportedly demanded a trade and failed to report to training camp, leading the team to suspend him.

Skinner, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract as an unrestricted free agent, recently demonstrated his capability in a preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche. Skinner stopped 31 shots to lead the Jets to a 3-1 victory. His performance included a significant glove save on a partial breakaway by Logan O’Connor during the second period.

Skinner previously played for the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. While his career has been marked by bouts of inconsistency, the current vacancy in the Jets' crease provides an opportunity for him to establish himself as a reliable number one goaltender.
