Stubaier Alps: German hikers rescued after becoming lost

A German couple, aged 69 and 70, required assistance in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol on August 25, 2026, after becoming lost and stranded during an alpine tour. The pair set out from the Nürnberger Hütte toward Becherhaus, but missed a key turn shortly after starting.

As they ascended via the Seescharte, Gamsspitzl, and Signalgipfel, weather conditions deteriorated significantly despite earlier forecasts of improvement. Upon reaching an altitude of approximately 3,200 meters, the hikers encountered a steep section secured by climbing ropes and were unable to proceed.

The hikers were found by a mountain guide who provided them with food and dry clothing. At the time of contact, the couple was reported to be soaked from rain, slightly hypothermic, and heavily exhausted.
