Czech climber killed in Postalm climbing trail accident in Austria

On Monday afternoon, 13 July 2026, a 23‑year‑old climber from the Czech Republic fell at the start of the Postalm Klettersteig in Strobl, Salzburg, Austria. Bergrettung Salzburg was alerted, and rescuers arrived quickly, but they could only confirm the victim’s death on site. The body was later recovered with the assistance of the Salzburg flight police, and the Alpinpolizei will investigate the cause.

Bergrettung Salzburg’s regional director, Richard Freicham, noted that many visitors from the Czech Republic and other Eastern European countries such as Romania and Bulgaria often take high‑risk routes in the Alpine region. He warned that the current heat and dry conditions increase the danger of rockfalls, with similar restrictions already in place on iconic peaks like the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
