Student Ademiju Ayeni dies after alleged stabbing in Osogbo

Ademiju Ayeni, a student identified as being from Osun State Polytechnic, has died following an alleged stabbing in Osogbo, Nigeria. The incident occurred on a Saturday during a convention for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee at the NUJ Press Centre.

The Osun State Police Command reported that Ayeni sustained a stab wound to his chest following a disagreement. While the dispute was initially thought to be resolved, Ayeni reportedly experienced chest pain after participants dispersed and was later confirmed dead at a hospital. Police have stated that an autopsy will be conducted.

There are conflicting reports regarding the circumstances and the deceased's status. Josiah Adeyemo, the NANS South-West Coordinator, suggested the incident might be cult-related and urged the police to investigate all angles. Meanwhile, the management of Osun State Polytechnic stated that while Ayeni was admitted to a part-time program in 2023, he had voluntarily withdrawn and lacked active registration records at the time of his death.
