Student aerospace projects advance with satellite launches and stratospheric research

Students from various international institutions are advancing their aerospace research through high-altitude and orbital missions.

In Brazil, 100 students from the public school network in Sorocaba and Fortaleza have developed the EduSat-2 and EduSat-3 nanossatellites. These PocketQube-standard devices are scheduled for launch on October 1, 2026, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as part of the Transporter-18 mission. The project is a collaboration between Ideia Space and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) under the ‘AEB – Escola em Órbita’ program, launching from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Simultaneously, eight students from the University of Porto’s Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) are preparing a scientific experiment for the stratosphere. Known as the ROCSAR team, they were selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to participate in the REXUS/BEXUS program. Their mission involves using stabilized radio frequency antennas to perform Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) measurements during balloon ascent and float phases.
