Educational institutions face misconduct and protest crises across Latin America
Multiple educational institutions across Latin America are facing crises involving allegations of misconduct, abuse, and administrative failures.
In Mexico, students at CECyTE Estación San José have protested against alleged abuses of authority by the principal, while at Colegio de Bachilleres 3, students and the collective ‘Las Tonantzin’ have blocked roads to demand the dismissal of the director following reports of sexual harassment and abuse by staff. Additionally, parents at the Venustiano Carranza primary school are protesting the alleged cover-up of sexual abuse by a janitor.
In Argentina, a family at CPEM 6 secured a school transfer for a student after publicizing a case of persistent bullying. In Florencio Varela, teachers held a strike following a physical assault on a librarian by a student's relative. Meanwhile, in Uruguay, students at the CERP de Colonia ended a 60-day occupation as a gesture of goodwill to enter working discussions regarding a new graduation plan.
In Bolivia, police are searching for a teacher accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old relative in Cochabamba, a case where the victim's mother has criticized the slow response of authorities.
