Brazil's Congress delays review of 96 Lula vetoes

The Brazilian National Congress has yet to examine 96 presidential vetoes issued by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Several of the vetoes have been pending for more than three years, including those related to the creation of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation and the National Climate Change Fund. Other pending vetoes block a proposal to increase the penalty for qualified robbery with serious bodily injury and a project that would recognize internships as professional experience, which officials argue could affect public‑service exam selection criteria.

The unresolved vetoes remain on the legislative agenda, awaiting deliberation and potential overturn by Congress.
