Student commutes by plane between Calgary and Vancouver to save on rent

Tim Chen, a final-year economics student at the University of British Columbia (UBC), has opted to commute via airplane between Calgary and Vancouver to avoid high rental costs in Vancouver.

Facing monthly rent prices of approximately $2,500, Chen decided to move back to his parents' home in Calgary, located about 700 km away. By flying with Air Canada for his two weekly in-person classes, his monthly travel expenses totaled roughly $890. This strategy allows him to save approximately $1,610 per month compared to renting in Vancouver.
