Kuala Pilah student death investigated as murder
Police in Negeri Sembilan have launched a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the death of 14-year-old student Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril. The student was found unconscious at his school hostel in Kuala Pilah on Friday night and later died at Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah.
A 16-year-old male student has been detained and remanded for six days to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been a form of punishment by a senior student, with some reports alleging the motive involved the victim violating school rules regarding vaping.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek has ordered an immediate audit of the school's safety compliance and operations. She emphasized that no party will be protected if misconduct or legal breaches are discovered. The Ministry of Education is also providing counseling and psychosocial support to the victim's family and the affected school community.
