Escuela Congreso: 14-year-old student fires weapon inside classroom
A 14-year-old student brought a .38 caliber revolver to Escuela Congreso in San Miguel de Tucumán and fired a shot inside a classroom during a history lesson. The projectile hit a wall, and no students, teachers, or staff members were injured.
Video footage captured by students shows the teenager manipulating the weapon and loading ammunition into the cylinder prior to the discharge. The student reportedly told authorities that he felt a sense of empowerment and adrenaline from holding the firearm. Following the incident, the student was detained by police and subsequently released to his parents.
Education Minister Susana Montaldo visited the school to coordinate support for the educational community. She emphasized that the ministry is working with psychosocial teams to address the emotional impact on students and staff. Montaldo also rejected calls for mandatory backpack searches at school entrances, stating that the responsibility for preventing minors from accessing weapons lies with the family rather than through school-wide inspections.
