Student expelled in Oaxaca for filming poor school bathroom conditions

A student at the Centro de Estudios Tecnológicos del Mar (Cetmar) 05 in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, has been expelled after posting videos on social media documenting the poor sanitary conditions of the school's bathrooms.

The videos, shared via TikTok, showed unusable furniture, walls and floors covered in mold, and non-functional toilets in a facility that serves over 800 students. In response to the social media exposure, the school administration, which operates under the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP), ordered the student's immediate expulsion.

Parents and students have protested the decision, labeling it an act of censorship and repression against a student who was reporting tangible issues. The community has called for the student's reinstatement, an audit of the school administration, and a formal review of the facility's operational conditions.
