Student found dead in drain behind Odisha school hostel

The body of a Class VIII student, identified as Gurunath, was recovered from a drain behind Gumuda Government High School in the Borigumma block of Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday.

Gurunath, a resident of Maliguda village, had been missing from the school hostel since Monday. His family and local villagers have raised allegations of negligence and potential murder against school authorities, claiming the institution failed to inform the police or the family regarding his disappearance.

Following the discovery of the body, protesters staged a demonstration outside the school, placing the body in front of the premises to demand justice. Local police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
