Student Government Association implements continuity plans amid turnover
The Student Government Association (SGA) is working to establish new frameworks to maintain long-term goals and initiatives despite high annual turnover and a shortage of incumbent senators. Legislative members noted that while broad advocacy goals often carry over, specific committee objectives are frequently lost due to a lack of communication and rotating membership.
Sen. Jivan Ramesh, chair of the Mental Health Assembly, highlighted that while new members bring fresh perspectives, the constant change in membership can lead to the inadvertent loss of established programs, such as the “Resource Revolutionaries” initiative. To combat this, the SGA plans to implement better progress tracking to assist future chairs during leadership transitions.
In related election news, Everett Etié and Aarnav Bansal have been elected as the first-year representatives for the 2026-27 academic year. The representatives will join the legislative branch to serve on committees and vote on bills. Etié expressed interest in campus improvements, including portable charging stations and enhanced facilities at Gregory Gym, while aiming to help first-year students navigate student organizations.
