Student government bodies address transparency and policy
Student government bodies at the university level are navigating issues of transparency and administrative policy. At a recent Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, students were instructed to leave the room once the open session concluded to allow for an executive session involving only senators and executives.
This move has raised questions regarding student representation and the criteria used to determine which discussions remain private. Critics argue that since students fund these organizations through tuition, they should have greater insight into the discussions held by their elected representatives.
Separately, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) senate held a brief meeting to pass senate bill 146-06, which updates the 2026-27 office policy manual. The changes allow officers to count certain required departmental and committee meetings toward their office hour requirements. The senate also unanimously approved the appointment of Muskaan Thindal as the Queer and Ally Student Assembly advocacy liaison.
