Student housing costs rise across Slovenian university cities

Student accommodation costs in Slovenia are seeing significant increases on the private market. In Maribor, rental prices for rooms have risen by approximately one-third since the pandemic, with average costs moving from 150–200 EUR to around 250 EUR.

Across major university cities, price disparities are evident. Ljubljana remains the most expensive hub, where students often pay between 300 and 450 EUR for a room in a shared apartment. Koper also faces high pressure due to limited supply, with prices ranging from 250 to 400 EUR. Maribor remains relatively more affordable, with shared room prices typically between 180 and 300 EUR.

While subsidized public student dormitories offer much lower rates—such as approximately 77 EUR in Ljubljana—demand remains high. Students face various practical challenges, including the risks of long-term lease agreements, sudden terminations by landlords, and the difficulty of finding compatible roommates.
