Student housing rental prices rise in Czech Republic and Poland

Student housing rental prices are rising across Central Europe, impacting thousands of university students in the Czech Republic and Poland.

In the Czech Republic, rental costs for rooms in larger apartments have seen significant increases, most notably in Pardubice, where median prices rose by 14 percent year-over-year to 7,700 CZK. In major academic hubs like Prague and Brno, median rents for rooms are approximately 12,000 CZK and 9,500 CZK, respectively. For students seeking independent living in smaller apartments, costs in Prague can reach roughly 21,000 CZK per month. Analysts attribute the rising demand to international students, particularly from Slovakia, seeking more comfortable living arrangements outside of university dormitories.

In Poland, reports indicate that rental prices have increased in 15 of the 17 largest academic cities. The average year-over-year increase is approximately 3 percent, with the highest jumps seen in Łódź and Poznań at 5 percent. While the number of students in Poland has exceeded 1.3 million, a nine-year high, there has been a nearly 10 percent increase in the number of rental offers compared to last year, which may provide some room for price negotiations. Notably, Kraków is an exception to the trend, seeing a 1.3 percent decrease in rental prices.
