Student housing shortage intensifies in Trier

The student housing situation in Trier has reached a critical point for the 2026/27 winter semester. Due to the closure of two dormitories for renovations, the Trier Studierendenwerk has had to reduce its available housing spots from approximately 1,500 to 900.

Representatives from the General Students' Committee (AStA) at the University of Trier report that many first-year students are struggling to find affordable accommodation. Some students have been forced to move between couches weekly, while others have resorted to staying in hotels or Airbnbs temporarily. The AStA has called upon the university to address the shortage, noting the significant psychological strain placed on students during this period.
