Croatia sees record demand for student dorms in Zagreb and Split
The number of applications for subsidised student dormitory places in Zagreb and Split this year exceeds the available capacity. In Zagreb, the Student Centre is running a fully digital application window from 8 July to 24 July, with results expected on 17 August and final lists published on 9 September. Due to renovation of pavilions 5 and 6 at the Stjepan Radić dorm, the total number of subsidised places will temporarily drop to 6,097 for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The Ministry of Science, Education and Youth has allocated extra subsidies of €152 for 906 students who fall below the ranking threshold. In Split, the Student Centre reports a record influx of applications, with 1,193 places available across several dorms and an increase in private accommodation subsidies to 500 students. The city expects a higher number of applicants than in previous years, reflecting growing pressure on student housing across Croatia.
